Helping you become the partners your relationship needs you to be

Helping you create the understanding, knowledge and skills that lead to lasting change.

Hi, I'm Paul

Twenty-plus years ago, I was struggling to make my relationship work. No matter what we tried, nothing seemed to create lasting change. It was a lonely and difficult time, living beside the person I’d chosen to spend my forever with.

My own experience of counselling inspired me to retrain as a psychotherapist and relationship therapist. For the past 15 years, I’ve worked with many couples whose relationships would have continued to struggle—or ended unnecessarily—without the right help being available.

How my approach is different

I work with you together, as individuals, helping each partner develop in ways that allow them to become the partner their relationship needs them to be. Together, you’ll develop the understanding, emotional connection, relationship knowledge and communication skills needed to create and protect the relationship you both want.

As a psychotherapist, this is where my training makes the difference. The Couples Counselling page explains how I help couples create lasting change.

Why I know change is possible

Each week I see couples solve problems they believed were impossible, and relationships that had been struggling for years begin to heal and reconnect. This is why I know change is possible.

  • People can only do what they currently know how to do.
  • Most of what keeps couples stuck happens outside their awareness or for reasons they don’t understand.
  • Once we’re emotionally triggered, we lose the ability to think clearly and respond in the way we’d like.
  • When understanding and skills change, the relationship changes.
  • How long you’ve struggled is no indication of the outcome.

These simple principles shape the way I work with every couple.

Working together

I know change isn’t always easy. You’ll never be judged for finding it difficult or being emotional.

You’ll find me calm, friendly and easy to talk to. I take the trust you place in me seriously and will be actively involved throughout our work together, helping you understand what’s happening, sharing knowledge and guiding you each step of the way.

Taking the next step

You shouldn’t have to pay before knowing what it’s like to work together or whether I’m the right therapist for you.

You’re welcome to arrange an initial meeting, or call first if you’d prefer to talk through what’s bringing you here. There’s no pressure or obligation—I’ll be happy to make time for you.
