Getting Started
It all starts with a conversation
Making contact
I know making contact can feel daunting. I think, though, you’ll be pleasantly reassured, as you can ask whatever you wish and speak to me about your difficulties, knowing I have no expectation that you’ll go any further. I also won’t rush you if you wish to talk.
Couples often need time to decide what to do next and who they wish to see.
Getting back to you
Many clients, having made the decision to find a therapist, like to get things moving. That’s why I’ll always get back to you the same day, usually within a few hours.
Please feel free to phone if you wish. If I’m not with a client, I’ll be very happy to talk. If I am, you can leave me a WhatsApp voice message, send a text or email me. However you feel most comfortable is absolutely fine with me.
Preparing for your first meeting
You don’t need to prepare anything for our first meeting. Simply come along and let me know what you’d like from counselling, and we’ll take it from there.
If you’d like to send me anything beforehand, you’re very welcome to email it to me.
Your first meeting and about fees
Many couples initially come simply to find out how I work and whether I’m the right therapist for them. You’re very welcome to do just that, and if that’s all you’d like from the meeting, there’s nothing to pay.
More often, though, once couples begin talking about what’s been happening, they’re naturally interested in my thoughts, understanding and guidance, and the meeting develops into meaningful therapeutic work. If, at the end of the meeting, we agree to work together, we’ll simply treat it as your first therapy session and the usual fee applies. If you decide not to continue, there’s no fee to pay.
Working Together
As part of our meeting, I’ll also explain the terms of working together and give you a copy to take away. You’ll have plenty of time to read through everything afterwards and ask any questions that come to mind.
If I'm not the right person
If I believe another form of therapy would be better suited to your needs, I’ll always tell you, explain why and do my best to point you in the right direction.
I know the way I work isn’t right for everyone, and I don’t want either of us to be disappointed. My priority is helping you find the approach that gives you the best possible chance of creating the changes you’re looking for.
Where to find me
I’m just 300 metres from Caterham station and two minutes from Junction 6 of the M25, with plenty of parking available.
